I recall the first time I went to watch my partner dance in a competition. During the warmups, I had some time to spend by myself - feeling like an alien, looking around the hall with a thousand questions running through my mind as everything seemed so new to me. Every dancer had two things next to them at all times: the strongest hairspray glue in the market and a sugary drink bottle for a quick sip during breaks. I knew the exact drink from my high-school days but it was not something I have ever purchased as an adult. I appreciate the need for fast acting carbohydrates to aid with recovery in between intense dance rounds but purely relying on a high dose of sugar is not a sustainable long term solution.
